Seal Petanque Club’s 40th Anniversary trip - a great success! (again)

Seal PC took a party of 22 players to Montreuil for the 40th Anniversary of our twinning with their Club over the weekend 2nd/3rd July.  Despite battling our way through hours of delay on the Shuttle, the weather turned kind when it mattered and a great time was had by all!

What made this trip very special was the range of players and ages of our party.  We welcomed the return of past Seal members, Eric and Jill Geddes, Geoff and Wendy Wanstall and Terry and Shelagh Hodder; we had a guest Triples team from our friends at Sidcup and a new generation of players in George Martin, Nicole and Alex Hide.

In the Melee Doubles competition on Sunday morning, where French and English players pair up, Seal Chairman, Howard just managed to pip John Hoggard and Mike Hide to the post by one point to win Trophy for Best English player.

If we had our doubts about the continuation of the twinning with Montreuil they were allayed by President Michel signing up to their Club coming to UK for the weekend of 17th/18th June 2017 with many of the French players openly committing to those dates.

So, a very enjoyable and successful weekend for us all …. Despite the fact that we rather carelessly left the Trophy in France!  In our closing remarks at the presentation Didier and Howard were quick to point out that over the past 15 years Seal PC had been winners of more than double the number of competitions … so perhaps it was their turn this time!?
